Here you will find out what you should know about a sick leave, because there is a lot to consider.

If you are so sick that you can't get to your work, a visit to the doctor is necessary. From your doctor, you will receive the so-called certificate of work disability. You have to send it in the origin to your employer within three working days.
You are obliged to notify your employer of incapacity for work immediately and the probable duration. If possible before work is normally starting. If the illness does not occur as quickly as possible, you risk a warning. How this notification has to be carried out, is regulated differently in every company.You have the right to full pay for up to six weeks during illness. Subsequently, usually the health insurance company takes over a reduced salary.

In case of a sick child, there are rules. For example if your child have to stays at home and has to be cared of, you have a right to take a time off work for sickness. Again, a letter from the attending doctor is required to certify your child's illness and the care it needs.

It is best to inquire with colleagues or supervisors about how to deal with the business in the event of illness. Most employers here are very understanding and helpful in making sure that workers do not get sick at all, or recover quickly and be fit again.
